IT AMC Services in the UAE: What a Maintenance Contract Should Actually Cover

A facilities manager at a mid-sized company in Dubai rang us on a Sunday evening. His CCTV recorder had just died. When he called his existing AMC provider, he got two answers he didn’t expect the response time was 72 hours, and the recording hardware wasn’t covered under scope. He’d been paying for that contract for three years. He’d never once opened the scope document.

That story plays out across the UAE more often than you’d think. Not because business owners are careless, but because a lot of maintenance contracts are written to be signed, not understood.

So we put this guide together. After years of delivering IT AMC services across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, our team at Powerlink IT & Security Solutions has a pretty good sense of exactly where these agreements tend to go wrong and what a fair, complete one actually looks like. No jargon, no sales pitch. Just what you deserve to know before you sign anything.

What Is an IT AMC Service?

At its core you pay a provider a fixed annual fee, and in return they take responsibility for keeping your IT and ELV systems healthy for the next twelve months.

Done properly, that responsibility covers:

  • Preventive maintenance — engineers showing up before things fail, not after
  • Corrective support — faults fixed without a fresh invoice landing every single time
  • System health monitoring — someone actually watching over your servers, network, and security systems
  • Compliance upkeep — everything staying audit-ready under UAE regulations.

Now, the part that rarely makes it into the sales pitch: an AMC isn’t a blank cheque. Consumables usually aren’t covered. Damage from mishandling isn’t either. Neither is a failing piece of hardware from another vendor that was never in scope to begin with.

Honestly? That’s fair. Every contract needs boundaries. The real problem is providers who bury those boundaries in fine print and hope you never ask. If a company can’t explain its exclusions to your face before you sign, take that as your answer. We sometimes describe an AMC as health insurance for your infrastructure. It won’t stop you from ever getting sick but it makes sure you’re never dealing with it alone, or paying full price all at once, when something does go wrong.

Five Things Every Genuine AMC Service Should Include

Comparing providers? Good, you should be. And when you do, these five things are what separate real maintenance from a discount card with a company logo stuck on it.

i. Scheduled visits that actually happen:

It sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many “AMCs” in this market are just reactive support wearing a preventive costume. A genuine contract commits to visits monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly, depending on your systems where engineers physically turn up. They check camera health, test storage drives, inspect cabling, verify switch performance, and look over UPS batteries. They clean equipment too, which matters more here than most places, because dust in the UAE never takes a day off.

One question cuts through everything: “How many visits are included, and what exactly happens during them?” A vague answer tells you what you need to know. And if a contract only promises to respond when you call, that isn’t maintenance that’s just waiting for something to break.

ii. A response SLA with real numbers in it:

“How fast will you come when something breaks?” is probably the most important question in any AMC conversation and, curiously, the one that gets the fuzziest answers.

A serious contract spells it out in black and white: guaranteed response hours, an escalation path if things stall, and what happens if the provider misses its own commitment. The phrase “priority response” means nothing on its own. The hours written next to it mean everything. Every hour your systems are down costs you money, one way or another. Your SLA should acknowledge that in digits, not adjectives.

iii. A helpdesk that actually picks up:

When something fails mid-morning on a working day, you want one number to call and a ticket number back. Not a voicemail. Not a WhatsApp group where messages get read “whenever.” A proper AMC includes a dedicated helpdesk where faults get logged, tracked, and escalated and where you can see exactly where things stand at any given moment. It sounds like a small thing. It stops feeling small the third or fourth time you need it in a year.

iv. Documentation someone actually keeps current:

This is the unglamorous item everyone skips, and it matters more than people give it credit for. Your provider should be updating your network diagrams, system configurations, and asset and maintenance logs after every single visit. Why does it matter? Because the day you face a SIRA inspection, an insurance claim, or an office relocation, accurate documentation saves you weeks of pain. Guesswork saves nothing.

v. Compliance checks built into the contract:

If your facility runs CCTV in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, maintenance isn’t optional it’s written into the regulations. We’ll go deeper into this in a moment, but your contract should explicitly include verification against SIRA and ADMCC requirements.

At Powerlink IT & Security Solutions, all five of these are built into how we structure every contract from the start. They’re not extras. They’re the baseline.

AMC vs. Break-Fix: The Comparison Most Businesses Never Actually Run

Some companies skip the AMC entirely and go with “we’ll just call someone when something breaks.” On paper, it looks leaner. Here’s what that actually looks like in practice:

Factor
Break-Fix
Annual Maintenance Contract
Cost predictability
Random, often painful emergency invoices
Fixed, budgetable annual fee
Response time
You're in a queue with no position number
Priority SLA response, in writing
Downtime risk
Problems surface only after failure
Routine visits catch issues early
Compliance
No trail to show anyone
Documented records, audit-ready
System lifespan
Dust, wear, and small faults pile up
Regular servicing extends asset life

Here’s a real-world way to picture it. A retail store in Dubai has its recording server fail. Under break-fix, they wait days for diagnosis, parts, and repair and for every one of those days, the store has no recorded footage. That’s a security hole. Given SIRA requirements, it’s also a compliance violation, quite possibly with fines attached.

Under a proper AMC? There’s a fair chance that failing drive got flagged during a routine visit two months earlier and swapped out and nobody in the store ever knew there’d been a risk in the first place. And if it did fail suddenly anyway, priority support gets things back up fast. That’s really the whole argument in one story. For UAE businesses, preventive maintenance isn’t a cost line. It’s insurance you actually end up using.

The Part Facility Managers Can’t Afford to Skip: SIRA and ADMCC

If you manage a facility with CCTV in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, read this section twice. SIRA in Dubai and ADMCC in Abu Dhabi don’t just require that your surveillance system was installed correctly. They require that it stays maintained  with records to prove it.

Picture an inspector visiting your premises and asking to see maintenance logs. If you can’t produce them, you’re exposed to warnings, fines, sometimes worse. And it genuinely doesn’t matter that “the cameras were working fine when they were installed.” A dead camera today is a compliance failure today.

This is where an AMC stops being optional and becomes structural:

  • Every documented visit adds to exactly the paper trail regulators expect
  • Scheduled checks keep cameras, recorders, and storage genuinely functional
  • Audit-ready reporting turns an inspection request into a five-minute email instead of a week of panic

We’ve written more detailed guides on CCTV maintenance as per SIRA and CCTV maintenance as per ADMCC if you want the full picture. The short version, though, is this: in the UAE, a maintenance contract with real documentation isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s part of running a facility legally and picking the right CCTV maintenance partner is how you stay on the right side of it without losing sleep over it.

How We Do It at Powerlink IT & Security Solutions?

No two facilities are alike, so we’ve never been fans of photocopying the same contract for everyone. Here’s how our packages break down:

i) Standard AMC — A solid, dependable baseline. Scheduled preventive visits, helpdesk access, and defined response times for your core IT infrastructure. You can see exactly what’s included in our Standard Annual IT Maintenance Contract.

ii) Premium AMC — For operations where downtime genuinely hurts. Faster priority response, more frequent visits, proactive monitoring, and extended system coverage. The Standard-versus-Premium difference really comes down to three things  speed, frequency, and depth and we document all three transparently. Full details on our Premium AMC package.

iii) Full ELV AMC — For facilities running integrated security and building systems. CCTV, access control, gate barriers, video intercom, and the wider IT infrastructure behind them one contract, one number to call, one team accountable for all of it.

Every professional IT services such as standard/premium AMC or ELV services is backed by our SIRA-approved, MCC-certified credentials, and documentation plus compliance reporting comes as standard. We don’t invoice you for the paperwork that keeps you legal.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What's included in an IT AMC in the UAE?

At minimum: scheduled preventive maintenance visits, a written response SLA, helpdesk access, up-to-date documentation, and  for facilities with CCTV compliance checks against SIRA and ADMCC requirements. Inclusions vary a lot between providers, which is exactly why you should ask for the scope document before signing, not after.

There’s no honest single number. It depends on how many devices and sites you have, whether you’re covering IT only or IT plus ELV, and how quickly you need engineers on-site when things go wrong. A small office pays a fraction of what a multi-site facility with security systems pays. The sensible route is a site assessment followed by a customised quotation which we’re happy to do, free of charge.

It should but read the contract carefully, because plenty of “IT-only” AMCs quietly exclude CCTV and ELV systems. Since documented CCTV maintenance is a regulatory requirement in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, either make sure it’s explicitly included in your contract or add a dedicated ELV AMC. An uncovered CCTV system hiding inside an IT AMC is one of the most common traps we see.

Three things: how fast we respond, how often we visit, and how deep the coverage goes. Standard gives you reliable scheduled maintenance and solid response times. Premium buys you faster priority response, more frequent visits, proactive monitoring, and broader coverage. If an hour of downtime costs your business real money, Premium usually pays for itself the first time it saves you one.
