A door gets forced open and the nearest camera doesn’t know to pull up its feed, because nobody wired the two systems together. The cabling was sized for the phone system that existed five years ago, and now it’s quietly buckling under a network it was never meant to carry. The BMS has no idea what’s happening at the front gate.

Both SIRA in Dubai and ADMCC in Abu Dhabi expect security systems to keep meeting standards for as long as they’re running, not just on the day they were signed off. - Structured cabling: It is the one nobody thinks about until it’s the reason nothing else works properly. Every camera, phone, and access point eventually depends on cabling that was either designed with room to grow or wasn’t. We’d guess close to half the “network problems” we get called out for actually trace back to cabling laid years ago for a completely different purpose of structured cabling.
- Access control and BMS: They working together, rather than as two separate logins nobody remembers the password to, is where a lot of the compliance headache actually gets solved. They can share the same backbone as everything else, and generally should.

Sites in DIP, KIZAD, ICAD, and JAFZA are often bigger, spread across multiple buildings on one plot, with cabling runs long enough that fiber genuinely starts making more sense than copper for the links between structures not because it’s the fancier option, but because copper simply won’t carry the distance reliably.
Access control tends to be more layered too: perimeter gates, warehouse zones, admin areas, each needing different clearance levels that all still need to report back to one system rather than sitting as separate silos. And because a lot of free zone tenants run logistics or manufacturing operations around the clock, CCTV coverage and PA systems generally need to be designed around shift patterns and much larger, more open floor plates than a typical commercial ELV package assumes.
